Uva Calendar 21 22 – At the February 3, 2022 meeting, the school board retained President's Day as a student/staff holiday, but approved March 4 as a regular school day to restore face-to-face learning hours despite the unusual weather. in January.

On November 13, the school board approved the following changes to this year's academic calendar. These changes are in line with school administrations across the country.

The changes are in line with statewide efforts to support teaching staff during a challenging year with extra work due to COVID protocols, shortages in areas such as substitute teachers and more. In addition to these calendar changes, we are also supporting staff with salary increases to attract more substitute teachers, providing flexibility to deliver more professional classes at home or remotely, and more.

Now more than ever, school staff are faced with more and more responsibilities as they balance the demands of your work and family life. I recently asked a group of coaches who they would most like to have, and they all said, "Time."

From my time in the building as a teacher and classroom administrator, I can tell you that the longest teacher mental period was after the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. There are usually no scheduled days off during this period until spring break, and exhaustion is common among many employees. In an effort to support a culture of self-care, I have made the following recommendations to school boards to give you more time to plan for your students, time to spend with your family, and time to take care of yourself.

I hope that these changes will now allow employees, families and community partners to make adjustments, especially when it comes to childcare. Additionally, I hope our staff will find that the calendar changes will give you more free time to focus on planning and self-care.
