Sru Academic Calendar 2023 24 – Update 09/12/2022 As of June 2021, UAW 2865, UAW 5810 and SRU-UAW siblings are negotiating to become honest UC. These organizations are made up of our 48,000 UC employees: student workers (graduate staff, GSIs, teaching assistants, lecturers and readers), graduate students and post-graduate researchers and publications. Their main demands include: fair pay, long-term immigration support, better support for parents and families, expanding rights for international researchers, securing more jobs and improving accessibility to retain workers with disabilities. In recent months, the UC administration has engaged in several unfair labor practices that affect the concerns of the UAW union and their ability to continue fair bargaining. Violations of the UC include unilaterally making changes to the terms of service without consultation, refusing to provide information necessary for consultation, and interrupting the consultation process. UAW unions have filed more than 20 complaints with the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB).

The actions of the UC administration have left our UAW sisters no choice but to defend their rights and win the university they seek. In an election that ended on November 2, UAW workers voted overwhelmingly in favor of the strike.

UC-AFT partners with UAW 2865, UAW 5810 and SRU-UAW. UAW members are in a similar situation to a UC-AFT professor a year ago: difficult negotiations with long-term demands against an employer that repeatedly violates the law. The choice of UAW members to support the struggle rather than surrender is similar to the decision of the UC-AFT teachers. Many of the demands of UAW members are very important to UC-AFT members as well. Also, the rise floats all boats. We are part of the same workforce and share a passion for work and academic integrity with our UAW brothers and sisters. UC-AFT members must not engage in unauthorized activities during the strike. In general, the scheduled activities are limited to classes and working hours.
