Fcps Calendar 19 20 – On October 18, 2022 the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) announced a new program survey for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).
Arlington Public Schools (APS) does the same job that the VDOE opened for the FCPS screening process.

Both FCPS and APS require students to stay home during district PSAT test days, even though 1) these students are expected to use the day to work alone (no work); 2) all other students in the district are given a regular school day; and 3) other students throughout the district were apparently provided with services in accordance with IEPs, IDEA, and implementing Virginia laws. In FCPS, students taking courses are forced to miss classes because FCPS has suspended university courses and school transfer courses. FCPS also implements this system on SAT test days.
According to § 300.323, schools are required to provide special education and related services in accordance with students' IEPs.
According to VA Code Section 22.1-98.B, "Each school semester in each division shall consist of at least 180 instructional days or 990 instructional hours in each academic year."
School Board Adds Holidays, Approves 2022 2023 Calendar
According to FCPS, APS has held its annual PSAT test date for October 13, 2021. APS has suspended school for 9th and 12th grades.
Students in grades 10 and 11 will take the PSAT on Thursday, October 13th at Yorktown High School. Students in grades 9 and 12 do not have to attend school. More information to follow
The PSAT/NMSQT test is given to all 10th and 11th graders on Thursday, October 13, 2021. 9th and 12th graders do not attend school. Those taking the 11th grade can meet the requirements to enter the National Merit® Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. You will receive another email on October 9 regarding your child's assigned exam room number and information about what to bring to the exam. Students will be dismissed from the bus at 12:34. There is no 3:01 bus, but there is a late bus at 4:45 for any late students.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA – The Fairfax County School Board on Thursday approved the 2022-23 school calendar that includes religious holidays for Jews, Orthodox Christians, Hindus, Muslims and other faith communities.
The motion to approve the Fairfax County Public Schools schedule was supported by all school board members except Ricardy Anderson and Megan McLaughlin, who abstained. The schedule sets the first day of school on August 22 and the last day on May 16, 2023.
Recent changes to the calendar include the addition of the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur and the Hindu festival of lights, Diwali, as holidays. The Jewish New Year holiday of Rosh Hashana will be a public holiday on September 26. The Orthodox Good Friday will be a public holiday on April 14. Good Friday, celebrated by Catholics and many Protestant Christians, and the New Year holiday for Theravada Buddhists, will be held during spring break, April 3 to 7.
Academic Year Calendar — First Presbyterian Christian School
Three more days – the Muslim holidays of Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr and the Lunar New Year festival celebrated in East Asian countries – fall on non-school days in the 2022-23 school year.
In the current school year calendar, Yom Kippur, Orthodox Good Friday and Diwali are designated as religious and cultural holidays, which are not days off for students. But Fairfax County Public Schools cannot schedule tests, quizzes, field trips, graduations, homecoming or sporting events during those holidays.
In developing the calendar, FCPS must consider state and federal laws, superintendent priorities, state guidelines for district feedback, and school board feedback.
