Both FCPS and APS require students to stay home during district PSAT test days, even though 1) these students are expected to use the day to work alone (no work); 2) all other students in the district are given a regular school day; and 3) other students throughout the district were apparently provided with services in accordance with IEPs, IDEA, and implementing Virginia laws. In FCPS, students taking courses are forced to miss classes because FCPS has suspended university courses and school transfer courses. FCPS also implements this system on SAT test days.

School Board Adds Holidays, Approves 2022 2023 Calendar

According to FCPS, APS has held its annual PSAT test date for October 13, 2021. APS has suspended school for 9th and 12th grades.

Students in grades 10 and 11 will take the PSAT on Thursday, October 13th at Yorktown High School. Students in grades 9 and 12 do not have to attend school. More information to follow

The PSAT/NMSQT test is given to all 10th and 11th graders on Thursday, October 13, 2021. 9th and 12th graders do not attend school. Those taking the 11th grade can meet the requirements to enter the National Merit® Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA – The Fairfax County School Board on Thursday approved the 2022-23 school calendar that includes religious holidays for Jews, Orthodox Christians, Hindus, Muslims and other faith communities.

The motion to approve the Fairfax County Public Schools schedule was supported by all school board members except Ricardy Anderson and Megan McLaughlin, who abstained. The schedule sets the first day of school on August 22 and the last day on May 16, 2023.

Recent changes to the calendar include the addition of the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur and the Hindu festival of lights, Diwali, as holidays. In the current school year calendar, Yom Kippur, Orthodox Good Friday and Diwali are designated as religious and cultural holidays, which are not days off for students.
