"We give our families a full year on the calendar," said TUHSD Superintendent Kevin J. Mendivil. "I am happy today that we are working as a union of three countries because there are many families. I have lived here for 11 years and I know by talking with teachers and employee that's what they're looking for."

TUHSD Principal Sarah James said her sisters and her husband attended the entire school and had a "great experience."

"I love the lack of interest around it, it's a good thing and it's a change," James said. "But as a district, we need to listen to our families and our students and make some changes."

TUHSD Board member Berdetta Hodge, who was re-elected to the Tempe City Council, said she was glad "you're joining our school," but added she was concerned about the parent who takes care of the children during the holidays during the school year.
