Elac Spring 2023 Academic Calendar

2023 is the Year of the Rabbit, starting on January 22, 2023 (Chinese New Year) and ending on February 9, 2024 (Chinese New Year's Eve). The rabbit symbol is a symbol of longevity, peace and prosperity in Chinese culture. Hopefully 2023 will be a year of hope.

Dumplings: As New Year's Eve approaches, families gather to celebrate the main holiday with a New Year's Eve feast. There is no doubt that it is customary for families to get together on New Year's Day and roll the balls. People eating dumplings symbolize wealth as they imitate the shape of ancient Chinese coins, gold and silver. People believe that if you eat a lot of porridge water during the New Year, you will get a lot of wealth in the coming year.

Lion Dance: Lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries where dancers dress up as lions and imitate lion movements to bring good luck and wealth. The lion dance is performed during Chinese New Year and other cultural, traditional and religious events.

Chinese New Year falls between January 21 and February 20 every year. It is celebrated in many countries and parts of Asia, including South Korea and Singapore. East Asians celebrate the New Year, relax with their families, and welcome the New Year with a new mindset. Chinese New Year celebrations are one of the biggest celebrations in East Asia each year.

Despite many similar traditions, many Asian countries celebrate Chinese New Year differently. The Chinese decorate their homes with red whenever possible because red is considered a holiday and happy color. Vietnamese people often decorate their houses with red and yellow. People from Chinese and Vietnamese cultures often meet with their families on New Year's Eve, and Koreans often worship their ancestors.

Different cultures have different ways of celebrating Chinese New Year. Chinese people often prepare and eat traditional foods such as dumplings. Korean cuisine consists of rice cakes and foods reminiscent of our ancestors. Vietnamese people usually eat a lot of fruits. Although there are different celebrations, Chinese New Year is a day when people say they have hope for the future.

What is your star sign? In Chinese culture, the zodiac is the animal that corresponds to a person's year of birth. Each birth year is assigned to one of the 12 animals that rotate every 12 years (see chart below for specific years). Each zodiac animal is associated with a specific personality, relationship, etc. 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit.
