Phillips Academy Calendar 2023 24 – Eden Prairie students begin the 2021-22 school year in September. 8, avoiding conflict with the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah based on changes made to the school calendar at the January 25 school board meeting.
The initial plan is to have the first day of school on September 7, coinciding with the holiday. The council approved the tentative schedule in February 2020. It will vote on the final version at a meeting on February 22, 2021.

Council members who voted to approve the tentative schedule a year ago admitted they made a mistake by not recognizing the conflict in the schedule. So does Superintendent Josh Swanson.

As a result, the district plans to change the schedule design process to include other participants in an effort to avoid the same mistake, he said.
According to Tom May, executive director of human resources, a group called a "meet and confer" consisting of one teacher representative from each building and six additional administrators created the original draft.
Assistant Superintendent of Academics and Innovation Dr. Stacy Stanley expressed regret for the frustration and anxiety the schedule has caused community members.

"We value the diversity of our community and want to engage (with) faith-based leaders and experts in collaborative work to design a process to review future schedules," he said.
"Ultimately, our goal is to support students and families on important attendance dates such as the first day of school and the last day of school, graduation and semester start dates," he said.
Stanley said the district reached out to community experts to help develop a process to get more people involved in schedule design. That group should begin meeting in the coming months, he said.

May said the final draft of the 2021-22 calendar includes 172 student contact days and 185 teacher contract days.
Winter break is December 23-31, 2021 and spring break is March 21-25, 2022. June 9 is the last day of class for all students.
The school board is expected to approve the tentative schedule for the 2022-23 school year at its meeting on Feb. 22. Check the provisional schedule for 2021-22 here.
