Beer Advent Calendar
"We didn't develop the idea, but we adapted it for Costco," Kirk Johnson, the retailer's Midwest wine buyer, told Costco Connection. "We've made this item bigger and better by using half bottles instead of the standard 187 milliliter bottles you see in other packs. We've also collected 24 unique premium wines to create a treasure hunt for our members."
There is also a site with more wine information at Wineadvent-ure.com, which states that "this year's calendar will be available at most Costco stores the first week of October."
Costco says its Brewers Advent Calendar is in its seventh year and includes 24 16.9-ounce cans of German beer. The calendar went on sale Friday for $59.99 at Florida Club Costco.
Costco's Gin Advent Calendar Returns For 2021
Tony Rizzo, a regional beer buyer in San Diego, told Costco Magazine that there are about six new beers on the calendar each year based on member feedback.
Advent calendars were traditionally simple with pull-outs revealing treats like chocolate, but over the years they've evolved to include everything from spirits to beauty products.
If you missed Costco's beverage-filled calendar, Aldi might have them for you. The discount retailer is rolling out its wine and cheese advent calendar starting Nov. 3, and plans to release additional holiday discounts as well.

Even though the holiday season is three months away, Costco customers have already started seeing the retailer's bold advent calendar for 2021. It's never too early to get into the holiday spirit, especially when alcohol is involved, right?

After Vinepair, Costco brought back the Brewer's Advent Calendar from Kalea for the seventh year in a row. The giant Advent Calendar features 24 cans of 16.9oz German beer for beer lovers to drink in time for Christmas. Each beer, Kalea's website claims, comes from small breweries in Germany and Austria and is specially packaged for the brewery's advent calendar. While the 2021 beer calendar sees the return of Pilsners and Helles Lagers, there are six new additions to this year's edition. In addition to the new Marzen, Hefeweizen and Bavarian-style Indian Pale Ale, Kalea says the real kicker this year will be the Zwönitzer Steinbier and Ladenburger Weizenbock. As with previous years, the 2021 Brewery Advent Calendar is priced at $59.99.
But while a beer advent calendar sounds like a very interesting way to get adults excited about Christmas, some Costco shoppers aren't too happy about it.
One skeptical shopper took to Reddit to ask other Redditors what they thought of Costco's beer calendar, and the reactions were mixed, to say the least. Some swear by how great the beer is: "I had this last year and it was pretty damn great and cheap for a lot of imported beer. It flew off the shelves here in SD." Another said they buy this advent calendar every year, and it's a worthwhile solution for anyone looking to take a break from locally produced American beer.
Costco's Wine Advent Calendar Is Coming Back
However, others questioned whether the beers featured in the brewery's Advent calendar were actually German domestic beers in the first place, adding that they could not recognize any of the beers featured in the calendar. One Redditor stated that "None of them are real local German brands. They just buy generic beer and create fake brands to sell it." Another commenter seemed to agree: "I've been to Germany / Munich Oktoberfest and I don't recognize any of them."
Some also believed that the beer was simply bad and had a metallic taste. One Redditor offered a possible explanation for the beer's poor quality. Given that Costco shoppers won't be buying the Advent calendar for another month or two, the beer will age, especially when Costco is leaving it unrefrigerated. For anyone not sold on Costco's German beer calendar, the chain also has a wine advent calendar. However, the latter will cost a whopping $99.99! It's that time of year when Christmas decorations and gift ideas start appearing on store shelves. And if you are or know a microbrewery, this could really interest you. Costco is bringing back the Costco Brewery Sales Calendar.
