"So, for the next school year '23-24, we won't have a modified calendar with a period between sessions like the one introduced by Lowndes County," Hardy said.

According to Hardy, an updated calendar is possible for the 2024-2025 school year. However, if they choose to have a calendar that differs greatly from what they have done in the past, they will give everyone enough time to adjust.

Our assessment planning process is carried out by an assessment committee made up of principals at the district and school levels. This group will meet here in the coming weeks, and from there we'll take it to the Advisory Committee on Oversight for its input. From there, we created two or three calendar opportunities and sent it out to all Lauderdale County school district employees for a survey," Hardy said.
Hardy is expected to present and approve the calendar at a school board meeting in February. According to him, this year's calendar should not change much, but this time the dates are not set.

When asked how the revised calendar benefits students, Hardy said, "Districts that have moved to the revised calendar. There is more time during the school year to improve what they see or feel. Instead of waiting for summer school after the year is over to catch the kids, you can catch up with them." Along the way.
It's too early to say whether the revamped school calendar will help boost graduation rates, but the LCSD will look at the data as it attempts to make changes to Lauderdale County schools. The Lauderdale County School District has decided to introduce an updated version of the Return to Learning Plan for the 2020-2021 school year due to parental concern.

The council decided to give parents time to express their concerns about the renewal of the program at a special meeting of the council next week.

"I was shocked that (board member) Dusty (Culpeper) allowed me to say anything," he said.

Crouch said that although the board has reviewed and approved the revised calendar, he still has concerns. Crouch said parents should have other options that allow students to study online without a medical reason.

Superintendent John Mark Kane talked about providing blended options for students who have a family member with a compromised immune system. It must contain a doctor's statement.

The addition of the plan came after the board split and allowed Crouch to express concerns about plans to reopen the area.
"I know this young woman is excited, but I know there are other parents who are excited, and I want to give them an opportunity to voice their concerns," said Calvin Jackson.

Culpeper made a motion to allow Crouch to address the council, but it was defeated. Culpepper said she made the proposal because most parents were unfamiliar with the policy, the school was starting so soon and she was worried about the teachers and administrators when the school opened.
"I think last night's decision was timely," Culpepper said. "I just wanted to give them (teachers and administrators) time to prepare for the new school year."

The district plans to maintain the traditional schedule for the school year with a soft opening, which means that 50 percent of students will be admitted a few days early and all students at the same time.
