Cmsd Calendar 2023 24 – Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools are asking for the community's help in determining the schedule for the 2023-24 school year, including where winter break and teacher work days will be.

Interim Superintendent Hugh Hattabaugh will consider input from the two proposed academic calendars and make his recommendations to the school board. Council members will vote on one of the 2023-24 calendars on November 9.

There is an online survey at cmsk12.org. Select "Parent and Student" and "Survey". The survey is anonymous and ends Wednesday. Participants can choose between calendar option A and option B.

In the two proposals for the 2023-24 calendar — Option A or B — the first day of class is Monday, August 28, and the last day of class is Friday, June 7, 2024.

Both calendars have the same number of holidays for students and teachers. The number of teacher days is the same, but falls on different days depending on the calendar selection.

CMS asked the calendar committee to build in six additional days for early release and make-up day exemptions.

The biggest difference between option A and option B is the length of winter and spring break for students. In option A, the winter break begins on December 21, 2023 and lasts until January 2, 2024. Students will return to class on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Tuesday, January 2, 2024 is Faculty Work Day

In option B, winter break for students begins on December 20, 2023 and lasts until January 2, 2024. Students will return to class on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. However, December 20 and December 21, 2024 and O 2 will be teacher days.

Although spring break begins on Monday, April 1, 2024 and ends on Friday, April 5, 2024 for both options, students in Option A will also have two days off, including teacher work days the week before March 28 and 29.

Network-wide calendar: We're excited to announce that we're moving to a unified network-wide calendar. This means that all our schools have the same first day, last day and holidays. We see many benefits to this streamlined approach to the school year, including easier planning for families with two or more students in our schools.

Key dates: Our current planning academic year starts on Monday 17th August and ends on Friday 28th May.

School Week: All schools begin each day at 8:00 a.m. and leave at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. We are currently planning an early checkout every Monday at 1:00 pm
