Dr. Gonsulin has been a teacher for over twenty years. He has held many teaching positions. Some of these areas are teachers of grades 5 and 6 of elementary education, 4-6. Grade Physical Education Teacher, Assistant High School Principal, Principal, Assistant Career and Technology Center Director, Teaching Assistant, Assistant Superintendent of the Starkville School District in Starkville. Born in New Iberia, LA, he is married with two children. B.A. BA in Interpersonal Counseling and Communication from Southwestern Louisiana University. and a second B.A. from Louisiana Southwestern University specializing in elementary education. He then completed his M.Ed. in Educational Administration and Supervision from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. His pursuit of educational achievement eventually led him to Mississippi State University, where he successfully completed his Ph.D. Curriculum and Teaching Programme.

Two bills regarding salaries of active public education workers were approved. 2022-285 Pay Increase, which gives public education employees a 4 percent pay increase starting in fiscal year 2022-23. State Teacher Salary Matrix Adjustment 2022-393 states that within the 2023 ETF budget, there is provision to expand the state teacher salary matrix, Seigman said. If approved, it will take effect July 1, and employees will see an increase in their first paycheck of the new year.

If the plan is approved, public educators could earn more than the state's matrix, Seigman said. This helps Jefferson County remain competitive and helps recruit and retain that workforce. Also ensure that salary changes made are maintained and not changed after three years.

"I think it's really important to look at the long-term side of the pay rise because it helps us see where we're at, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for looking at that," President Carita Venable said. "I've been on the other side of that before, and the long-term view is avoiding losing those teachers."

Salary Increase On The Way For Jefferson County Teachers

Gonzoulin was stuck asking which departments would have to lose money to get those raises, not taking money from anywhere else to pay for the increase because the state is paying.

"Teacher pay is way behind," Gonsolin said. "The hardest thing to hear is when teachers say they're not being paid enough. This opportunity is essential for these raises to be sustainable. They can't afford to give back. That's why we always have to look five years or more ahead.
