New Orleans Calendar Of Events 2023 – Mardi Gras, also known as Pancake Day, Pancake Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday and Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday"), is the last day of celebration before Shrove Wednesday. Mardi Gras falls on Easter Sunday (always 47 days before Easter Sunday) and is a fluid holiday, which means the date of Mardi Gras changes every year. Dates may vary from February 1st to March 9th.

Although Mardi Gras is celebrated in many countries around Mardi Gras, in the English-speaking world the word "Mardi Gras" is primarily associated with the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. More recently, it has evolved to denote the entire cycle of celebrations, rather than just one day of Carnival.
